Leaders will take voters’ pulse before sending rail to ballot

State and regional transportation leaders are laying the groundwork for a potential ballot measure that could help fund intercity passenger rail along Colorado’s Front Range, including a long-awaited route from Denver to Longmont.

Speaking on Thursday at the 17th annual Commuting Solutions Legislative Breakfast, Front Range Passenger Rail District General Manager Sal Pace said the district is preparing for the possibility of asking voters to approve a new tax as early as this fall’s election.

However, Pace emphasized that the district will not move forward with referring a ballot measure unless polling and public engagement show a clear possibility for it to pass. The details of the ballot language or any new tax that could come from it are still unclear…
