CCRC sued by prospect who says he was denied admission because he takes dementia medication

A federal lawsuit accuses a luxury senior living provider of housing discrimination, saying that it used “unlawful, false stereotypes” in denying a prospective resident’s housing application based on his prescription medication.

John Headley, a retired physician, alleges that he was denied admission to move into an independent living unit at Vi at Highlands Ranch in Denver in March based on the fact that he takes donepezil (trade name Aricept), a medication used to treat dementia caused by Alzheimer’s disease.

In a statement, Vi told McKnight’s Senior Living that the company cannot comment on ongoing litigation but is confident that its admissions practices comply with the Fair Housing Act…
