Man who threw items out of Brighton hotel room arrested: Police

DENVER (KDVR) — A 25-year-old man was arrested last week after allegedly causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to a hotel room in Brighton.

The Brighton Police Department released details about the incident on Friday. Officers responded to an unwanted person at a hotel in the 900 block of Platte River Boulevard around 11 p.m. on Feb. 14, after the suspect was reported to be “destroying a hotel room.”

BPD said the man, who was not identified, was throwing items out of a third-story window and breaking furniture. Officers made “numerous” attempts to make contact through the door of the room but were unable to due to it being locked with a deadbolt, according to police.

The department said that, due to not being able to get into the hotel room, the call “evolved” from an unwanted person to an active barricaded suspect. BPD said it ultimately decided to use OC fog under the door to assist in de-escalating the situation and enter the room safely, after the man’s behavior continued to be more aggressive…
