Judge orders CBI to identify, turn over records in untold number of cases tied to disgraced DNA analyst

BOULDER, Colo. — A judge on Monday ordered the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to turn over records in an undetermined number of criminal cases to attorneys for a man charged with a 1994 murder.

Michael Clark spent a dozen years in prison for Marty Grisham’s slaying before his conviction was vacated last year and he was freed – at least for now. Boulder prosecutors later announced they would take Clark to trial again.

The records sought by Clark’s attorneys include cases where former CBI analyst Missy Woods looked at male DNA and used a specific program known as Yfiler in that work. Defense attorney Adam Frank, who has said he plans to file a motion seeking to have the charges against Clark dismissed over “outrageous government conduct,” argued that the records would show that CBI’s policies and practices allowed Woods to commit misconduct in DNA analysis…
