75-year-old cyclist killed in Boulder County Colo.119 crash identified

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office has identified the cyclist killed in a crash with a dump truck on Colorado 119 on Friday as 75-year-old Thaddeus Fial of the Lafayette area.

About 11 a.m., Mountain View Fire Rescue crews were called to the intersection of Colorado 119 and Niwot Road for a report of a crash between a cyclist and a dump truck, according to a post to the department’s Facebook page. Crews arrived and provided medical care to Fial, but his injuries were severe, and he was pronounced dead on scene, the post states.

The dump truck was stopped at a traffic light, facing east, at the Niwot Road and southbound Colorado 119 intersection, according to a Colorado State Patrol release. Fial was biking eastbound on Niwot Road approaching the same traffic light. When the light turned green, the dump truck made a right turn as Fial continued east and collided with the cyclist, who was thrown from the bicycle. The dump truck then drove over the man and stopped on the shoulder of southbound Colorado 119, also known as the Diagonal Highway in that area…
