Colorado State Patrol has released additional information related to the fatal cyclist-involved crash that took place in Boulder County’s Niwot on February 27, with the preliminary investigation potentially revealing details related to who may have been at fault.
Colorado State Patrol responded to the crash at about 11:02 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 119 and Niwot Road. The crash, involving a dump truck and a cyclist, resulted in the 75-year-old cyclist from Lafayette, Colorado being pronounced deceased at the scene.
Per a report from Colorado State Patrol, both the dump truck driver and the cyclist appear to have been headed eastbound on Niwot Road, stopped at a traffic light before the wreck occurred. According to their report, the light turned green and the cyclist went straight while the dump truck turned right. At that point, the cyclist was struck and thrown off of his bicycle, with the dump truck then driving over the cyclist as it proceeded to stop on the shoulder of Highway 119…
