Boulder and Flock on track for contract renewal, but city welcoming bids

After months of mounting public pressure to reconsider its relationship with Flock Safety, the city of Boulder announced Friday that it will welcome bids from other license plate readers.

This doesn’t mean that the city has severed all ties with Flock, which is facing public scrutiny for how its data has been used in Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and President Donald Trump’s mass deportations. Boulder’s relationship with Flock will continue as the contract was set to renew this month. However, the city will send out a request for proposal within the next month for other companies to pitch their services. Boulder expects Flock to submit a bid.

From there, the city can decide if it wants to continue its partnership with Flock or go in a new direction…
