Best of Louisville through the lens: Annual photo contest winners announced

Cows grazing in a field are hardly an unusual sight along Colorado’s Front Range.

But Claire Stepleton’s “Dinner on the mesa,” the grand prize winner in this year’s “Life in Louisville” photography contest, captures something more. Snowcapped mountains are framed by a fiery halo of clouds, hanging above a wandering herd. It’s the epitome of a Front Range sunset — hard to look away from.

Once a year, Louisville invites local amateur and professional photographers to document the “essence” of life in the city through the contest, seeking different perspectives on everyday scenes. Categories this year included animals and pets, buildings and public spaces, and sunrises and sunsets, among others…
