Boulder police chief speaks out on suspect’s low bond after officer seriously injured

DENVER (KDVR) — The Boulder Police Department is speaking out after a man suspected of drug sales was given the option to pay $100 to be released on bond after a Boulder officer was seriously injured in an arrest that ended in a creek.

On Tuesday, around 6:30 p.m., the Boulder Police Department said officers were patrolling Central Park in Boulder after complaints about drug dealing and overdoses in the area. During this time, officers saw a woman smoking suspected methamphetamine who pointed to a man by the creek who allegedly sold her drugs.

Officers spoke with the man, later identified as Kai Brown, 49, but when they asked him to sit down, police said he started to run. In an officer’s body camera footage posted to the department’s Facebook, it shows an officer chasing the man before both fell into the Boulder Creek…
