Fines For Speeding Begin on I-25 in Northern Colorado

Believe it or not, excessive speeds on a portion of Interstate 25 in Northern Colorado have dropped by a staggering 90 percent in the past couple of weeks. Since March 1, 2026, thousands of drivers have been issued warnings in the area where construction is taking place on the Interstate 25 North Express Lanes work zone between Mead and Berthoud.

Speeding Drops Dramatically on I-25

At the beginning of March, the Colorado Speed Enforcement program issued 4,154 warnings; as a result, excessive speeding in this area has decreased significantly.

The warning period for the Colorado Speed Enforcement Program has ended; now, drivers caught exceeding the speed limit in this area will be fined $75. The civil penalty will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle that violated the speed limit in this area, and drivers will have 45 days to pay the $75 fine or appeal the notice.

Where the Money Will Go From Speeding Fines

According to 9News, the revenue collected by the Colorado Department of Transportation for the speeding penalties will be used to fund the Colorado Speed Enforcement Program. Any excess funds will then be allocated to the Vulnerable Road User Protection Fund…
