Beloved Boulder bar that closed to auction off massive collection of quirky decor to support staff severance

In case you missed it, Boulder’s beloved The World Famous Dark Horse bar was forced to close last month due to a redevelopment project. After 51 years of business, its final day of operations took place on March 14.

Perhaps one silver lining related to the closure is that fans of the establishment will soon be able to take home a piece of memorabilia while also helping to bolster the livelihood of the spot’s employees. While the time, date, and location for the event hasn’t been set yet, the Dark Horse has announced that an auction of their massive and eclectic collection of their decor will be put up for auction.

“Our staff and crew have been working so hard every single day since March 14th, disassembling, moving, and sorting through everything,” reads a statement from the business. “The staff of the Dark Horse kept your drinks flowing and burgers cooking, but if you’ve been here awhile you know they’re all much more than just that. Many of them are also long time employees who have become part of our big and wonderful (and maybe a little dysfunctional) family. […] As a small token of gratitude, we have decided to part with many of the beloved objects as a shared goal to help and pay our long term staff a severance, as they have continually shown their dedication to our business but also the many people they have encountered over the years…not only in our closing months, but over tons of amazing Dark Horse years.”…
