Sarasota man pleads not guilty in family shooting

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Sarasota man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, their young son, and the family dog appeared on the court docket Thursday morning for arraignment.

34-year-old Nicholas Novickis entered a written plea of not guilty and waived his appearance as he remains in custody. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm and one count of aggravated animal cruelty.

The case stems from a shooting on Mondrian Court in Sarasota. Investigators say officers were called to the neighborhood late morning on Saturday, May 23, after Novickis’ mother called 911 and reported her son had shot and killed his girlfriend, Allie, their 6-year-old son, Phoenix, and the family dog after arriving at the home for a pool day…
