Manatee jury convicts mother of pepper-spraying workers during supervised visit

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – A woman faces 30 years in prison after she was convicted of assaulting two workers during a supervised visit with her children and illegally taking the children to Georgia, the state attorney’s office said Monday.

A Manatee County jury convicted Lachina Renea Cropes of two counts of false imprisonment with a weapon, and two counts of battery. A sentencing date has not been set.

Prosecutors say Cropes’ two young children, ages 8 and 10, were put into the custody of the Department of Children and Families in 2024 after allegations she had committed acts of domestic violence against her partner in front of the children…
