Sarasota nonprofit repairs and redistributes bicycles to community members in need

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Sarasota-based nonprofit is turning damaged bicycles into reliable transportation for community members who need it most.

SRQ Bike Boys, founded in 2014, collects broken and used bicycles, repairs them, and redistributes them free of charge through a network of partner organizations in the Sarasota area.

How the program works

The organization does not distribute bikes directly to recipients. Instead, partner nonprofits — each with professional staff — identify and select individuals to receive the refurbished donations. Many recipients hold evening jobs that run past the hours of local public bus service, making the bikes a critical mode of transportation to and from work…
