SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) — Rain chances are expected to increase this weekend and remain elevated into next week, according to ABC7 Chief Meteorologist Bob Harrigan.
Saturday will bring a 50% chance of rain, dropping to 40% on Friday as the day progresses. Rain chances will rise after 3 or 4 p.m. Sunday is expected to have a better chance of rain arriving earlier in the day and approaching the coast, meaning coastal locations will see more rainfall.
Rain totals rising each day
Expected rainfall totals over the next five days have increased daily, Harrigan said. Three days ago, forecast graphics showed a half inch to an inch, over the period. Yesterday, that increased to one to two inches. The current forecast calls for two to three inches, with some isolated areas potentially seeing up to five inches of rainfall.
Most of the rain is expected to fall Sunday and Monday. Saturday is expected to remain mostly dry for much of the day before deep tropical moisture moves in.
Flooding possible in localized areas
The Weather Prediction Center has identified a possibility of flooding in some localized areas from 8 a.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday, Harrigan said.
