SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A sentencing date has been set in the Ashley Benefield case in Manatee County. Benefield was convicted of Manslaughter last month in the 2020 shooting death of her estranged husband Doug. She attempted to use Florida’s Stand Your Ground law as a defense in the case. Initially charged with 2nd degree murder, she was convicted on the lesser charge.
