Post election, Manatee County walks back plans for a parking garage on Anna Maria Island

Manatee County nixed plans to build a parking garage on Anna Maria Island and other unpopular decisions made by commissioners that were voted out during the primary election.

The Manatee County Commission has been dominated by developer-friendly politicians represented by political consultant Anthony Pedicini for the past four years. This year’s Republican primary election ensured that at least three new faces will join the commission, flipping the majority vote for the first time since 2020.

Commissioners are now walking back controversial decisions made with the influence of county commissioners who were voted out of office this month, including plans for a controversial parking garage, a takeover of operations at the county’s historical park, and a reversal on restrictive public commenting policies.
