Suspect in 2022 Skyway Fishing Pier murder arrested: MCSO

PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A suspect wanted for the murder of a man at the Sunshine Skyway South Fishing Pier has been arrested in Plant City, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Alex Martinez, 34, was arrested by the US Marshals Task Force on Monday, nearly two years after officials allege he shot and killed 26-year-old Diomicio Primitivo Ibarra-Hernandez during a drug deal at the pier.

Detectives said Martinez arranged to meet the victim to buy marijuana, but multiple shots were fired during the transaction and Ibarra-Hernandez was killed.

Martinez is facing charges of felony murder with a firearm, failure to obey written promise to appear, and providing false information to law enforcement.

Martinez was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and will be extradited to Manatee County at a later date, the sheriff’s office said.

A $5,000 reward had been offered by the Gold Star Club of Manatee County for Martinez’s arrest.
