BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — The mother of a child with autism who was tied to a chair at a Bradenton school earlier this year filed a lawsuit against the school board, the child’s teacher and teacher’s aides.
According to court documents filed earlier this month, Takelia Jones accused the School Board of Manatee County of negligence and the child’s teacher, Carina Chindamo, and teacher’s aides Taylor Internicola and Hydalmy Ortiz, of false imprisonment and battery.
Jones said her 7-year-old son, Jhalil Richardson, who is nonverbal, was tied to a chair by his wrists for an hour during recess at G.D. Rogers Garden-Bullock Elementary School on February 2. Security camera footage appeared to show the three women taking turns sitting on the chair to keep it stable.
Jones said her son returned home in need of medical attention.
The civil lawsuit comes months after Chindamo, Internicola and Ortiz were charged with false imprisonment of a child.
