Hurricane Milton tore the facade off this downtown St. Pete building. Now what?

ST. PETERSBURG — The striped 11-story building on the corner of a bustling downtown intersection already looked abandoned, its windows covered with plywood.

It was once home to Bar Milo and the Coronet Apartments, but no one lives there anymore. Developers had been figuring out what to do with it before Hurricane Milton blew chunks of stucco off the northwest corner of 300 Central Ave, exposing two-and-a-half floors of the interior stairwell. The inside could be seen from art galleries, condos and offices to the west.

Now, billowing black tarps shroud 300 Central. Under scaffolding, the sidewalk is fenced off. A “no parking” sign in front of a prime street parking spot explains why: “Falling debris.”

Neither the owner nor the city is able to say just yet what comes next for the building…
