Sarasota Police take the lead in search for 27-year-old woman missing since August

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – 27-year-old Felicia Adams has been missing since August. She was last seen at the Resurrection House in Sarasota. Her mother, Misty Coppola, told ABC7 she spent the last six months trying to get an official missing person’s report filed for her, but faced pushback. The mother believes it’s because her daughter is a homeless adult struggling with addiction.

Like Coppola, one of the first things you do as a parent of a missing child is call police. But ABC7 found that not one, not two, but three local agencies were not taking the lead on the case. Even though the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office had officially filed Felicia as missing two weeks ago.

Jurisdiction became the issue. So, we reached out to the Sarasota Police Department last week, they told us the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office was the lead on the case. But when we reached out to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, they told us since Felicia was last reported seen by her mother at her Port Charlotte home, that is out of their jurisdiction. So, then we contacted the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, but they said Felicia never lived at that home and the case belongs to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
