Local fossil hunters, TV show go global

VENICE — When Don Brunning’s father handed him a five-gallon bucket and told him to fill it with black things he found on the beach, Brunning thought he was crazy.

Walking along Venice Beach in the summer of 1965, Brunning began spotting the things his dad spoke of so adamantly, small shark teeth and other fossils lining the sand.

By the time he walked to the South Jetty and back, Brunning’s bucket was full, and after buying a fossil book to identify his finds, his curiosity was sparked…
