Hero deputy honored for stopping nursing home shooting

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – A Manatee County deputy shot while responding to an incident at a nursing home was honored with a purple heart today. Deputy Michael Davis responded to the incident last May at Aspire at Palma Sola Bay on Cortez Road West in Bradenton.

According to MCSO, Sean Francis Calcutti attempted to make entry into the nursing home where he was confronted by an employee. He had hit the building with his car before trying to enter through a doorway. A shot was fired, but the employee was thankfully not hit. Deputies say Calcutti fire a gun through a window but no one inside was hurt.

Davis arrived on foot to the scene and confronted the man attempting to enter the building. Calcutti fired at the deputy. Davis was struck with a bullet, traveling through his left bicep. He returned to the force after a six-week recovery and a night’s stay in the hospital…
