A once segregated hotel in Sarasota could get upgrades

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Sarasota hotel that was once a place for African-Americans to stay during the Jim Crow era could soon get upgrades.

On Monday, there was a City Commission Meeting to discuss what could be next for the Colson Hotel. The community initiative, Save the Colson, presented a plan to refurbish the building that’s been sitting on 1425 8th St. since 1925.

In September 2024, there was an appeal to demolish the building, but in April, the demolition was denied…
