‘We are devastated’: Bradenton Police Department mourning officer’s death

BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — The Bradenton Police Department announced Friday that it is mourning the loss of one of its officers.

Police said Officer Zachary Butterfield, 40, died by suicide on Thursday afternoon.

“This is a heartbreaking time for our department,” said Chief of Police Josh Cramer. “We aredevastated to learn that one of our own was suffering in silence. Our hearts are with Zach’swife, children, and all who knew and loved him. The Bradenton Police Department’s PeerSupport Team is actively working to ensure that every member of our department has access toemotional support and professional counseling. In times like these, we must lean on eachother—and stand with the Butterfield family.”
