Few Venice ambulance transports end at newly opened free-standing ER near city

Roughly a month after the June 18 opening of HCA Florida Venice Doctors Emergency, a free-standing ER located south of the city of Venice, the CEO of HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital emailed Venice Mayor Nick Pachota with concerns about the number of patients being transported there on ambulances operated by Venice Fire & Rescue.

The email, sent July 18 by HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital CEO Joe Rudisill, asked Pachota to call him because, up to that point in July no patients had been transported to the facility at 901 U.S. 41 Bypass South.

“As you know, we are the closest emergency department to the VFD stations 1 and 2,” Rudisill wrote. “Would like to understand what the barriers are.”…
