Venice woman, 91, beaten as her dogs are stolen

VENICE — An elderly Venice woman alleges she was kicked in the belly and roughed up after she caught three women stealing her dogs — a poodle and two Chihuahuas.

Julia Ballard, 91, who owns and runs Ballards Farm Supply in Venice, was working on the 28-acre business and farm about 6 p.m. Tuesday when, she said, she saw a woman in her late 20s putting one of Ballard’s dogs into a car.

Ballard started yelling and moved in close to the woman, who was with two other women in a black Lexus SUV…
