ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Ukrainians and members of the Epiphany Catholic Church in St. Petersburg gathered in solidarity Sunday morning for a celebration and symbol of unity. August 24 marks the 34th anniversary of the country’s independence.
“The tragedy goes through not only the Ukrainian community, our American community, the Pinellas County community, but everywhere. We have people of all sorts of races and religions here showing support for us,” Yuriy Tymoshenko, a USMC veteran, said.
The event began with a mass and prayer service, in which dozens of Ukrainian-Americans attended. Then, inside the church’s main hall, attendees experienced a live concert with traditional music, shopping with local vendors, and traditional food…
