Water quality health advisory again issued for Palma Sola South beach in Manatee County

Health authorities in Manatee County have again issued a water quality health advisory cautioning swimmers about high levels of fecal bacteria at Palma Sola South beach ahead of Labor Day weekend.

The Florida Department of Health in Manatee County issued the advisory on Friday afternoon, Aug. 29, after water samples collected at Palma Sola South on Monday and Wednesday, did not meet recreational safety standards because of elevated levels of Enterococcus bacteria.

Palma Sola South has become known for frequently testing positive for high Enterococcus bacteria levels. The beach ranked second on a list of Florida beaches with the most “potentially unsafe” days for swimming in 2024, but questions about the cause have long been debated among local stakeholders…
