No swimming signs posted on Bean Point after multiple drownings

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) -No swimming signs are now placed around Bean Point. Banning swimming on the beach has been a hot topic for Anna Maria Island city commissioners for the past month. Most recently, creating a no-swimming area on Bean Point was on the city commission meeting agenda last Friday.

The beach is known for its scenery and clear blue water but is also known for its strong rip currents. There are signs around the beach showing how to escape a rip current.

In the past month, there have been three drownings on and near Bean Point according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. Two happened on Aug. 9th and one on Aug. 31st…
