St. Petersburg cyclist killed in DUI crash, Florida Highway Patrol says

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A cyclist was killed after being struck by a DUI driver in St. Petersburg early Saturday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At around 3 a.m., a 36-year-old Texas man driving a Chevy Silverado was traveling east on Gandy Boulevard, near the intersection with 4th Street North.

The driver, Robert Self, attempted to overtake a cyclist but collided with the 43-year-old St. Pete man, who was taken to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries.

Self was later arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol and refused to take a breathalyzer test…
