SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Special Marine Warning until 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
At 2:59 p.m., the NWS Tampa Bay Ruskin office said radar spotted a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts about 7 nautical miles southwest of Venice Inlet, moving east at 10 knots.
Waterspouts can quickly form and capsize boats, damage vessels, and create suddenly higher waves. Mariners should take precautions, including moving to secure locations and wearing life jackets.
