Sarasota students push back against proposed school merger

SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN) — A proposal to merge Suncoast Polytechnical High School with Brookside Middle School is drawing pushback from students and parents.

Suncoast Polytechnical is known for its hands-on learning approach, allowing students to earn their high-school diploma while preparing for trade careers. Superintendent Terry Connor and district staff say the proposed merger would streamline resources, address low enrollment, and help protect Brookside from a charter takeover.
