Video shows Coast Guard rescue 8 stranded on boat near Venice

VENICE, Fla. (WFLA) — The U.S. Coast Guard released a video on Sunday showing how its Coast Guard Station Cortez boat crew rescued eight boaters who were stranded at sea.

The Coast Guard said the 26-foot vessel became disabled about 35 miles west of Venice.

An officer with the Venice Police Department reported the overdue vessel to the Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

An Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew located the boaters aboard their disabled vessel around 9:32 p.m. Then, a boat crew was sent to the vessel’s location.
