The recent actions of Sarasota County School Board members Bridget Ziegler, Robyn Marinelli and Karen Rose – who represent a voting majority on the five-member board – show that they do not value the community that entrusted them with their positions.
Their push to move School Board meetings from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. is the most recent of many decisions that show they see themselves as above the very people they were elected to represent.
As a result, these board members are abandoning the standards they so readily demand of others: transparency, accountability and a willingness to engage respectfully with differing viewpoints.
Rejecting transparency
If transparency is truly a value that they champion, they should not be pushing to move School Board meetings to times that make public participation nearly impossible…
