BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – Officials are warning Manatee County residents about a new variation of a long-running jury duty scam.
According to the Manatee Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, a resident recently reported receiving a call from scammers posing as law enforcement officers. The callers claimed the resident had ignored a jury summons that had been “signed for” at their home.
In this updated version of the scam, the impersonators threaten arrest and demand immediate payment through gift cards or other untraceable methods. The scam is similar to previous schemes in which callers falsely accused victims of missing jury duty…
