ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WWSB) – A 14-year-old Bradenton girl with a rare medical condition has begun a long journey to recovery after surgeons spent nearly 17 hours performing a complex operation to remove her left leg, which had grown to an extraordinary size.
The surgery took place at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, where medical teams worked through the night to amputate the teen’s leg, which weighed more than 170 pounds due to the rare condition.
