MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – Right now the Elks Lodge is working hard to make sure that local kids have all the food they need. The trouble is, they say it’s harder than ever to meet the demand.
The Elks Lodge, or to call them by their proper name, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, are a group of people who gather in communities all across the country not just to build a community for themselves, but also to give back. They offer scholarships, support veterans, and, of course, feed kids.
In the current economy, though, it’s getting hard to make ends meet for many families, and the services that the Elks offer are harder than ever to maintain. This weekend, the Bradenton Lodge opened up a brand-new storehouse for the thousands of dollars worth of food supplies that they take in to give back to the community. They said that it took $9,300 to fill up the storehouse with food… and they only expect it to last three weeks…
