200+ artists take over Sarasota’s Main Street for one of the region’s biggest art festivals

If your weekend plans are still a blank canvas, Downtown Sarasota is ready to help you give it some color. The 38th Annual Downtown Sarasota Festival of the Arts (1718 Main Street) returns to transform the area into a vibrant outdoor gallery packed with creativity, conversation, and shopping that’s worth the drive from anywhere in Tampa Bay.

This Saturday and Sunday, the festival will stretch along Main Street from Orange Avenue to Links Avenue. That’s more than five city blocks devoted entirely to art, making it one of the largest and most anticipated cultural events that Sarasota offers each year.

A festival nearly four decades strong

In a city filled with creative experiences, the Downtown Sarasota Festival of the Arts stands out for both its longevity and reputation. Now in its 38th year, the festival consistently ranks among the top 100 art festivals in the nation, according to Sunshine Artist Magazine, which is no small accomplishment in the art world.

That recognition is partly due to its impressive lineup: more than 200 national and regional artists will be in Sarasota this weekend to display their work. Visitors can explore everything from life-size sculptures and painted masterpieces to photography, ceramics, and handcrafted jewelry. It’s also a great opportunity to chat with the artists about their creative process, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how each piece comes to life.

Free and full of inspiration

The Downtown Sarasota Festival of the Arts is free to attend (and pets on leashes are welcome!), making it easy to bring the whole family for an afternoon of art-hopping. Plus, proceeds from the festival are reinvested locally through donations to the Downtown Sarasota Alliance, so browsing, shopping, and supporting artists also means supporting the community…
