Traffic delays causing student tardiness at Lakewood Ranch High School

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Traffic backups near Lakewood Ranch High School are causing students to arrive late to class, prompting concerns from parents who say their children are being unfairly penalized for circumstances beyond their control.

Jyl Garner, a parent, said it takes 47 minutes to complete a round-trip of 3 miles during pickup and drop-off times. She said students are being marked tardy despite the traffic delays.

“You have an overcrowded high school with very difficult access to get to that school. You’re also competing with people who are trying to get to the LECOM dental school at the same time,” Garner said…
