Judge grants summary judgment in Englewood alligator attack wrongful death case

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. (WWSB) – A Sarasota County circuit judge has granted summary judgment to multiple defendants in a wrongful-death lawsuit filed after an 80-year-old woman was fatally attacked by alligators in Englewood.

The lawsuit was filed by Kristin Domian, personal representative of the Estate of Rose Marie Wiegand. The court said Wiegand fell into an adjacent canal while weeding along the edge of her property on July 15, 2022. She was attacked by alligators and died from her injuries.

The judge ruled the defendants were entitled to judgment as a matter of law on several groups of claims, including negligence theories tied to provisions in Chapter 379 of Florida Statutes, premises liability claims and strict liability claims…
