‘I was scared for them’: Fire destroys duplex on Longboat Key

LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. (WFLA) — Firefighters responded to Lands End Drive on the north end of Longboat Key Monday after a 911 caller reported a structure fire.

When they arrived on scene, they found smoke billowing out of a three-story duplex. The call came in at 9:57 a.m. and the fire was out in about two hours.

Red flag warning issued for multiple counties in Tampa Bay

The three-alarm fire prompted a large response. In addition to Longboat Key Fire Rescue, firefighters from Sarasota County and East Manatee Fire Rescue also responded. Twenty-four units responded to the scene.

Firefighters said both units in the duplex were destroyed. Neither of the structures were occupied by residents, but firefighters said a housekeeper was in one of the units and noticed the fire burning in the walls…
