The mother of a 5-year-old Sarasota girl who was found severely neglected was sentenced to four months in the Sarasota County Jail, followed by two years of probation, according to court records.
Crystal Kates, 38, was arrested on Sept. 11, 2025, along with the child’s father, 50-year-old Torrance Boles, after investigators discovered a disturbing scene when they went to check on the child following an anonymous tip sent to the Florida Department of Children and Families concerning the girl’s well-being.
Kates entered a plea of no contest to a charge of neglect of a child without bodily harm on Jan. 30, according to court records…
