ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Homeowners in Englewood are speaking out against what they are calling an unwanted neighbor — the Manasota Beach Road expansion.
What You Need To Know
- Manasota Beach Road is a residential road in Englewood, an area home to wildlife and farm animals
- The Sarasota County Board of Commissioners approved turning it into a construction zone to build a roadway from Wellen Park to help mitigate beach and school traffic
- Neighbors in the area say their quiet road will host more than 22,000 cars every day once complete, calling it their “unwanted neighbor” because of the noise and traffic
- According to a public design workshop last month, residents should expect to see surveyors and construction equipment this spring
Sarasota County has already approved the $15 million budget to turn a road that is currently off the beaten path into a county roadway, but some residents are trying to put a stop to the project.
