‘He shattered a family’: Ohio man gets 20 years for DUI crash that killed Florida couple

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — An Ohio man accepted a no-contest plea and will spend the next 20 years behind bars after killing a Florida couple when he ran their car off the road last December.

At around 3:40 p.m. on Dec. 14, 2025, 48-year-old Fred Donaldson had a BAC over twice the legal limit when he was driving down Interstate 75 in Sarasota County.

A witness captured the crash on video, which shows Donaldson, driving a Toyota Camry, veering sharply to the right and into the victims’ vehicle, sending it spiraling off the road and into a tree, killing the driver and passenger.

The two victims were later identified as 64-year-old Katherine Henson and 69-year-old David Henson, a married couple who lived in Pensacola.

Officers at the scene who spoke to Donaldson reported smelling alcohol on his breath and documented that he had difficulty walking and speaking clearly. The probable cause affidavit also said that Donaldson said, “I f***** up,” and asked if the couple was OK…
