IKEA to open store in Sarasota

A new IKEA store will soon land in Sarasota.

Why it matters: Right now, Sarasota residents who want to indulge in the Swedish retailer’s meatballs and maze-style showrooms have to commit to an hour’s drive to Tampa.

  • That’s 59 miles each way. By the time you factor in gas, your budget-friendly end table isn’t so budget-friendly anymore.

Zoom in: The store will open in the University Town Center at 147 North Cattleman Rd. and feature a 48,000-square-foot showroom, complete with furnished rooms tailored to reflect Sarasota’s style.

  • IKEA says 5,000 products will be on the showroom floor, ready to grab and go.
  • And yes, the Swedish Deli will be there with all the staples: meatballs, veggie dogs and cinnamon buns.

What’s next: The store is slated to open late this summer…
