SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — Doctors at Sarasota Memorial Hospital say a new early detection program is helping catch more lung cancers before symptoms begin and when the disease is most treatable.
A newly released report shows 75% of lung cancers diagnosed through the program in 2025 were found in Stage I or II; that is more than double the national average.
The program uses artificial intelligence to review imaging scans and flag possible abnormalities, including in tests done for other medical reasons, like emergency room visits. Doctors say that allows them to identify at-risk patients who may not have been screened otherwise…
