Additional Coverage:

At least five individuals were injured in a knife attack at New York’s Penn Station on Monday evening. Authorities apprehended a suspect at the scene, and the incident is currently under investigation by the Amtrak Police Department.

According to officials, the victims were promptly transported to Bellevue Hospital. Among the injured, one person sustained serious wounds, two are in moderate condition, and the remaining victims have minor injuries. It remains unclear whether all five were stabbed, as neither law enforcement nor the FDNY have confirmed specifics about each injury.

The attack reportedly occurred near the New Jersey Transit section of the station around 7 p.m. Videos captured by bystanders show chaotic scenes with crowds of travelers trying to exit the area, as well as bloodied tissues near tracks five and six. Several law enforcement officers were seen restraining the suspect, who is believed to have mental health challenges.

In a statement, the Amtrak Police Department confirmed their response: “Earlier this afternoon, Amtrak Police responded to a reported stabbing at New York Penn Station. The suspect has been apprehended and an investigation is underway.”

Officials have warned the public to avoid the area due to expected road closures, traffic disruptions, and interruptions to mass transit services. Images circulating online depict multiple officers surrounding an ambulance transporting the injured.

The attack took place on the eve of a high-profile event at Madison Square Garden, located just above Penn Station. President Donald Trump was scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at the venue, prompting a significant security presence by the Secret Service, NYPD, and other agencies. It remains unclear how the stabbing incident will impact security arrangements for the game.

Penn Station is a major transportation hub, serving millions of commuters, tourists, and sports fans annually. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the investigation unfolds.
