Out-Of-Control SUV Tears Down Tribeca Sidewalk in Multi-Car Crash

Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood almost turned into a disaster zone Saturday morning after an SUV tore down the sidewalk and set off a wild pileup with several parked cars. Local news says it happened around 8 a.m. on Hubert Street, just east of Greenwich Street, and honestly, the aftermath looked more like a scene ripped out of an action movie than anything you would expect on a quiet weekend morning.

A Jeep SUV barreled through, smashing everything in its way before slamming into a parked car. The crash jolted one vehicle right onto the roof of another, leaving residents and folks passing by just standing there, stunned. Amazingly, no one got hurt. Not the driver, not the pedestrians, nobody.

People heard a massive crash and rushed out to find the mess. Security cameras and photos from nearby buildings captured the whole thing. You could see how close pedestrians came to being hit.

Witnesses Describe a Narrow Escape

One guy told Tribeca Citizen he and his son had just been getting ready to head to a coffee shop. They thought they were listening to construction, but outside, an SUV had just flown down the sidewalk. Others pointed out that the street is busy with families, dog walkers and regular folks enjoying their Saturday mornings.

A doorman said he had just gone inside after his shift. He realized that if he had stayed outside for a couple more seconds, he would have been right in the SUV’s path…
