Street closures, transit changes after old Pfizer building caves in

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) — The partial cave-in of the old Pfizer building in Midtown led to dozens of street closures and transit changes, according to the NYPD and the MTA.

Initially, the streets surrounding the building located at 235 East 42nd Street closed when the incident was reported to the FDNY shortly before 8 a.m., but the perimeter has since expanded.

The NYPD has set up a frozen zone from 40th to 45th Streets and from First to Third Avenues.

Officials are telling New Yorkers to avoid the area.
